MacSNMP Home Page and Information

Introduction:

Since OT/SNMP's inception I have forever been disgusted by the lack of an installer, and more importantly, just an easy way to install SNMP on a Mac. So, since I have had several requests and have myself been irritated by the difficulties in installing Apple's OT/SNMP on a Mac, I have come up with my own installer. Do be forewarned, however that I do not make any warranty, neither express nor implied on the stability of MacSNMP, OT/SNMP, the SNMP Administrator, or this installer. If you use this you use it at your own risk. I have included at the bottom of this Read Me Apple's Read Me for OT/SNMP and a brief introduction on what the Simple Network Management Protocol does.

Version History:

Updated 2-9-00

We have received word that OT/SNMP does not appear to run on a PPC with a G3 upgrade card. I do not believe that Apple supports this anyway, and do not recommend installing OT/SNMP on Macs with G3 Upgrade cards. This goes for Macs with PPC upgrades as well.

Updated 10-5-99

  • There does not appear to be any problems with OS9 and the MacSNMP installer. If you are doing a clean install of OS9, you should re-install the MacSNMP installer with the current build. However if you upgrade to OS9, without doing a Clean Install, SNMP should continue to function as it has.

Updated 9-21-99

  • There seems to be a problem with the 61xx series computers. I am able to get SNMP to work, however MRTG will not poll the box. It seems to think that there is no ethernet card installed. Actually it seems to think the ethernet card is a printer port. I assume this has something to do with the fact that the 6100 series of computer has an AAUI Transceiver, perhaps this is interfering? Would like feed back on those testing with 6100's in any configuration.

Updated 8-3-99

  • There seems to be a slight problem with the Beige G3 running OS 8.6. I have not been able to get SNMP to work. It installs on the Beige G3, and the Admin opens up, but SNMP does not seem to work. Would like feed back on those testing with Beige G3's in any configuration.

Updated 7-23-99 MacSNMP Hack Install v.1.2b2 Released

  • Eliminated the "Force Restart" option from installer as in some cases cause the machine to either hang or crash. (This helps when doing a remote install via Timbuktu.)

Updated 7-18-99 MacSNMP Hack Install v.1.2b Released

  • Fixed spelling errors in Read Me file.
  • Added the option to specify an installation directory.
  • Now includes the ability to do a "Remote Volume Install"
  • Changed CPU requirements to "PowerPC"
  • Minimum Requirement to install now allows Override to allow install on earlier systems. NOTE: Installing MacSNMP on systems prior to 8.5 is NOT Supported, and should not be done. While it may work, it is not recommend unless you are prepared to suffer and except the consequences for your curiosity.) I may remove this option in later versions.
  • Added Splash Screen containing MacSNMP Hack Logo.

Updated 7-17-99

  • MacSNMP Hack Install v.1.1b Released
